6 tips for that perfect Shelfie

There no doubt that the shelfie has well and truly become part of our homes and our workplaces. So these are our top 6 tips to creating the perfect shelfie!

  1. Use Artwork!

Artwork doesn’t have to be hung on a wall. Leaning artwork on shelves, even layered together is a great way to add interest. You don’t even have to have a fancy frame.

  2. Foliage and Fleurs.

The addition of foliage and flowers is always a plus. There is something so nice about having a living plant or fresh cut flowers around you. If you have a particular knack for killing things - stick with greenery that can live in water like devils ivy, agave and baby rubber plants.

  3. Somewhere to hide things.

Boxes and opaque canisters are great to use in shelves to hide mess. Like a junk drawer for your shelf. I use a canister on my shelf in my office for business cards Im give. At home, I have a box on a high shelf to house batteries. Trust me - if you put on there you will use it!!!

4. Interesting Objects

You’d be surprised how good your great great grandmothers vintage tagine will look in your shelves!! Using interesting objects are a great way to show your personality and family history! It might be something quirky you find on a holiday or something quirkier your gorgeous 4yo made you for mothers day - put it on the shelf! It will add interest, colour, texture and is sure to be a conversation starter!

5. Books Stacked and Colour Coded

Books of course belong on shelves… But you don’t have to just stand them upright! Lay them flat and use them as a plinth for one of those interesting objects. Color code them so your books work with your artwork OR if the cover is amazing, stand it up front facing and use that cover as an artwork.

6. Trays to Group things

Trays are a piece for the home that I feel like I go on and on about. They are useful everywhere! I couldn’t count how many trays I have in my home. A tray on a shelf is a great way to group pieces together. It might be the spot the remote always goes, or somewhere to stack the ugly NBN modem with a beautiful ceramic in front of it. Either way - you can’t go wrong adding one. Find one in a different texture and colour to the shelving and reference that colour elsewhere in your shelves and it will look right at home!

Do you still need some help! We would love to come and help you shelfie!!
