Hello and welcome to our little corner of the internet. We are Lauren and Ryan – He’s the builder, I’m the designer. We are chalk and cheese and the yin to each other’s yang. To put it simply, I’m the bespoke fabric to his rusty nails!

From high school sweethearts to home owners, Ryan and I purchased our first property at the tender age of twenty. And just like that, following a successful reno and flip, we were bitten by the bug. So much so, that a few years later, on our wedding day in 2011, Ryan scored BIG spouse points by surprising me with a business name registration certificate displaying the word RYLO – a blend of our two names, of course. And just like that, RYLO was born. Best wedding present ever!

We are a husband and wife team, we are parents, and we stand for creating family homes with a heart. We love dreaming up warm, practical, functional, child-friendly spaces – from planning killer layouts to carrying through relaxed, inviting and comfortable interiors that turn houses into homes.

Ryan and I have a serious love affair with timber houses, and sparks fly when my background in fashion design and interiors collides with Ryan’s skill as a carpenter and builder. The RYLO aesthetic is all about blending the traditional with the contemporary. And yes, the ‘Hamptons’ look is kind of our jam, but we like to present a non-stuffy version of this popular design style, adding a touch of ‘RYLO’ with unique, playful accents and engaging colour palettes. So basically, we’ve reinvented the ‘Hamptons’ to create what we like to call the ‘Australian Classic’ – a celebration of our beautiful Queensland lifestyle. We love it and we know you will too.

We’ve made RYLO a one-stop-shop. Ryan and I offer a seamless design and build service, from the ideation stage right through to ‘Welcome Home’. Alternatively, we can also work with your current plans to deliver your desired dream project. And yes, we also have significant experience working within the commercial sector, including retail, restaurant and commercial fit outs. Do we sleep, you ask? Not very much! But our passion fuels our energy and we dream up builds for breakfast. Call us crazy, but we just can’t help ourselves…

Our Team

Lauren Pearse – Creative Director

Growing up Lauren moved house10 times. That’s 10 bedrooms she designed, re designed and designed again before the age of 18. Renovating was a big part of her younger years and shopping for lighting and tiles, choosing paint colours and playing with floor plans with her mum was a constant. Safe to say the seed was planted and her love of design grew from there.

Fast forward a few years and Lauren’s longing for colourful classic interiors resulted in the the start of a small retail store – Rylo Interiors.  Creating a small space in East Brisbane for people to purchase divine homewares that were curated to create a happy home.

Along with the completion of Ryan’s builders certificate the little retail store turned into a growing design business and designing homes with heart became a big mantra when the babies Clayton and Evelyn joined the Rylo family.

Surrounding herself with the most incredible team Rylo Co has evolved into one of Brisbane’s most sort after design and build teams. Light filled homes, with clean lines, pops of colour and quirky elements create family homes that can easily be distinguished as Rylo Reno’s.

Lauren loves her home town of Brisbane. Over a long 5 years of on and off renovating, Lauren and Ryan with their 2 babes, Clayton and Evelyn and their rescue pup Odie have just completed their family home renovation in Seven Hills.

Ryan Pearse – Builder/ Director

Ryan wasn’t always going to build. In fact, is Pop Doug begged him to do a building apprenticeship when he was young but he wouldn’t have a bar of it… When he was 20 after getting over yet another Goal Keeping injury it was decided that was the way he would go – who would have thought bad knees would get him where he is today!?  If it’s not his loud singing or banter on the site that gives him away – it’s his 2 knee braces!!

Ry has a BIG love for timber houses. He LOVES being on the tools and always feels he’s had an awesome day if he’s been able to swing his hammer or pull out the demo saw! As a boy Ryan didn’t stop moving, playing sport every waking hour… and still to this day if you ever get to witness him on site, he’s like a frog in a sock. The man works hard and if you receive an email from him at midnight – it’s not a rare occurrence!!

When he’s not working on other people’s homes, he’s generally working on his own. Having just finished the family home after 5 years of renovating Ry is looking forward to the next project.

Sarah Neil – Senior Designer

Growing up in North America from the age of 3 and traveling near and far with her family has evolved Sarah’s aesthetic into a beautiful blend of American and Australian style.

Before coming to Rylo Sarah shared her design talents styling weddings and homes for sale while she completed her studies. Now, as our Senior Designer, her styling expertise is the perfect accompaniment to our designs, acting as the finishing touch for the completed projects.

Creativity should be Sarah’s middle name. She’s a pro at whizzing together looks for our clients and actually the best shopper we’ve ever met.  Her style and energy is contagious making our office a hub of sassy activity.

Every morning we wait with bated breath to see her next perfectly styled outfit. She’s upped the ante in our office style and we love her for it!

Rachael Larkin – Construction Designer

A central Queensland native, Rachael grew up in an old Queenslander, living through the renovation with her family. Sparking an interest in the process, Rach moved to Brisbane to pursue her design studies. Gaining valuable experience within the residential home industry, her attention to detail, REVIT prowess and construction knowledge is a much needed addition the Rylo office.

With the ability to organise and manage a project to the nth degree, her client and vendor relationship status is pretty solid resulting in smooth and timely deliveries and installs.

When Rach joined the team we thought she was pretty quiet, and as time goes on we have come to realise she’s quite the opposite. Rach’s energy and constant giggles in the office make the work days a breeze. Even when fighting with Revit or trying to figure out the perfect kitchen design she’s all smiles.

When she’s not working on our Rylo projects, Rach is building her own property empire with her fiancée Matt.  Drawing up a storm in her spare time, designing and re-designing her renovations proves she’s living and breathing the designer life.

Jen Goodrich – Office Manager/Expeditor

The beautiful Jen is our country girl. After finishing school she went straight into uni to study interiors. Working in the industry whilst studying Jen has gained project management, design and client liaison experience making her the perfect first point of contact for our clients.

Although Jen is the youngest of our team she’s well and truly wise beyond her years. Her REVIT and sketch up skills are enviable and she’s often trying to create and design the weird and wonderful things we come up with!  Her comprehension skills definitely take a battering! Give this girl and challenge and she will take it on with guns blazing!  Jen is always ready for action and to fuel the office she is often providing us with her incredible baked goods to keep us going each day! If you pop into the office – make sure you try some her slice!!!

Jim Hudson – Chippie and Supervisor

James, Jim, Jimma, Jimbo this guy is too good for just one name!  Jim has worked on some of Brisbane’s most beautiful homes and we are super lucky to have him as part of our team.  When there’s an intricate balustrade Jim is the one preparing for the hard yards. He takes so much pride in creating his masterpieces, even taking them home to perfect them!  Having worked in the construction industry for nearly 20 years this guy is legit!

Hamish (Hamo) Colville – Chippie and Supervisor

This glorious red face man is the one that introduced Ryan and Lauren many many years ago. He has been a carpenter for nearly 15 years and his experience building high end homes is a major asset to Rylo. Hamo is the chatter among the group and if you come to site you will most likely spend some time having a yarn this one. He has many a story and many a laugh to have.

When Hamo isn’t working you’ll find him packing for his next mini adventure. If he’s not on his way to Bribie or Moreton he’s headed further afar to Bali. Anywhere with surf really… You will certainly struggle to meet someone who enjoys life more than Hamo!

Matty Harts – Chippie

This guy has been with us since his school based apprenticeship, learning the ways of Rylo early. He’s had to do all the boring jobs on site, but he always did them with a cheesy little grin! Now as a fully-fledged carpenter he’s constructing things left right and centre begging for a new apprentice to join the team so he isn’t the young one on site anymore!
